The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) congratulates Gordon Peters, who was re-elected to the position of Grand Chief, and Denise Stonefish, who was re-elected to the position of Deputy Grand Chief, at its 45th Annual General Assembly.
Grand Chief Peters is from the Delaware Nation, Moravian of the Thames and brings a multitude of experience to the position, which includes former Ontario Regional Vice-Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, President and CEO of the Centre for Indigenous Sovereignty, and work for and in First Nation communities for over thirty years. He will serve a three-year term as AIAI’s newly elected Grand Chief.
Denise Stonefish was also re-elected for another three-year term and will continue her duties as Deputy-Grand Chief. Deputy-Grand Chief Stonefish is from the Delaware Nation, Moravian of the Thames and her experience includes serving as a Councillor for the Delaware Nation, portfolio holder for Social Services and Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council with Chiefs of Ontario, and a former Grand Chief of AIAI.
Grand Chief Peters and Deputy-Grand Chief Stonefish look forward to working with the AIAI Member Nations and each have stated they seek to strengthen the organization with more work in the communities and the next few years promise to be very productive.
