London, Ontario, April 2nd, 2025 – The King Charles III Coronation Medal was made and given to commemorate the dedication of individuals to their people. It is an honor for The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) to acknowledge the work and efforts of two recipients of such an award, Chief Laurie Carr of Hiawatha and Chief R. Donald Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
Grand Chief Joel Abram says “I am very proud of both Chief Carr and Chief Maracle for being given this honor as it shows that their work has not gone unnoticed. So many have seen, and heard about their dedication to their Nations and the work they have given to other First Nations. I feel equally honoured at knowing that I have been there with them on many occasions in talks in our own AIAI chief’s councils and during lobby sessions and each time I feel confident in having excellent role models at my side. I want to thank them both for their work and this is such a well deserved honour.”
Deputy Grand Chief Stacia Loft says “I have known both Chief Carr and Chief Maracle for a number of years, and in that time, they have shown strength and dedication, and I am inspired by their leadership. It fills my heart with pride, and I stand next to them both, their families and friends, and their Nations in applauding this honour. I hope to continue working with them in the future and that they will continue to be role models of First Nations Leadership. It is not an easy path, but they have traveled it time and time again and I look forward to continue learning from each of them.”
The commemorative medal was presented to Chief Carr and Chief Maracle late last week and it serves as an amazing symbol of their contributions and many outstanding achievements. AIAI could not be prouder of two amazing leaders. Thank you Chief Carr and Chief Maracle.
