Position: Employment Counselor
Salary: $20.00 – $24.00/hr
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Department: Employment & Training Closing date: May 18th, 2017 @ 4:30pm
Job Summary:
The Employment Counselor is under the supervision of the Employment & Training Administration Officer. This position provides assistance, counselling, and guidance and information to worker/clients on all aspects of employment search and career planning. The Employment Counselor also provides guidance and information to employer/clients regarding Human Resources Development Canada funding and employment opportunities.
Qualifications:
1) Post secondary degree or diploma in a related filed with two (2) years employment experience in a counselling capacity with similar duties & responsibilities such as, Social Services or education; OR…
2) Completion of secondary school and 7 – 10 years of recent experience in services related to employment counseling or in a helping profession may replace formal education;
3) Solid knowledge with return to work strategies and life skills;
4) Solid knowledge of the labour market, workplace practices, job search strategies and techniques;
5) Must be proficient in MS Office applications; Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet;
6) Knowledge of current recruitment trends and practices;
Knowledge, skills, abilities and other attributes required for successful performance:
Knowledge in proposal preparation and report writing – Ability to set priorities and work under pressure – Excellent written and oral communication skills – Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team approach – Well developed problem-solving, organizational and administrative skills – Proven data base system knowledge – Ability to maintain a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues – Ability to facilitate group and/or community information sessions
